“Comfort Women” Video Contest

Theme

Why should the history and issues around “Comfort Women” be taught in schools in the United States?

In 2016, California Department of Education included the “Comfort Women” history in High School’s History/Social Science Framework that reads: “Comfort Women” can be taught as an example of an institutionalized sexual slavery. 

Length: Up to 3 min (but flexible)

Deadline: July 12, 2019. No exceptions.

Winners will be notified on July 22, 2019 individually and announced at an Award Ceremony during KAFC’s Gala Dinner on July 27, 2019 in Los Angeles.

(Winners are encouraged to attend and will be given free admission to the Gala Dinner.)

Multiple winners will be selected.

Submissions: emailed to kafcinfo@gmail.com as an attachment or shared with kafcinfo@gmail.com using Google Drive, Dropbox or iCloud.  Include a brief introduction of yourself in the email, such as your location, school, grade and how you heard of this contest.

Additional Guidelines

You are free to use any format — you may recite a poem, give a speech, interview other people and teachers, act, sing and dance! This is an opportunity for you to showcase your artisitic creativity, courage and passion for the cause!  We are not looking for fancy video editing skills here. Your sincere, age-appropriate approach that shows your understanding of the issue, uniqueness and originality of your idea will be the key to success!  Group or team submissions are also permitted!

Entrants will retain copyright in their work, but by entering into thecontest, you as the entrant hereby grants to KAFC and/or its successor a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, assignable, royalty-free license to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, perform, create derivative works, transmit or disseminate the submitted work(s) in all media or platforms whether now known or hereafter invented. You also waive any and all moral rights in the submitted work(s) with respect to any use by KAFC, its members, officers, sublicensees, assigns, or successors in interest (“designees”). You hereby acknowledge and agree that KAFC and its designees will have the perpetual, worldwide right to publish and use the submitted work(s) in any way, and in any media for trade, advertising, promotional, and/or other purposes as KAFC and/or its designees may determine without further consideration to you or any third party.

No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for thiscontest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. You must obtain written permission (and be able to provide KAFC upon request proof of such permissions) for all copyrighted materials.
